Arsenal forward Christos Tzolis received a rousing standing ovation on Sunday as he returned to Club Brugge to take a ceremonial kickoff ahead of the local derby against Cercle Brugge.
Taking advantage of a gap in Arsenal's schedule following their Friday victory over Coventry City, the 24-year-old Greek international made a quick trip across the Channel to visit his former club.
Emerging from the tunnel to loud chants of "Tzolis! Tzolis!" from a packed, sold-out Jan Breydel Stadium, the winger applauded the home supporters before taking the ceremonial touch to start the match.
Tzolis, who departed for North London earlier in the summer transfer window after a prolific stint in Belgium, was invited as the guest of honor as Club Brugge celebrated their "Foundation Game". His former teammates went on to deliver on the pitch as well, securing a tight 1-0 victory over local rivals Cercle Brugge.
